FAST AND EASY INDOOR GRILLING – WITH HAMILTON BEACH

Hamilton Beach Indoor Grill with Removable Plate – Model # 25335

25335-3
Pros: removable non-stick grill plates are dishwasher safe, well-designed drip tray
Cons: top of the grill becomes hot so don’t touch it
My George Foreman grill had developed loose grill plates and wasn’t performing to satisfaction.  I became spoiled with the convenience of indoor grilling.  However, I didn’t want to spend a lot of money on another grill.  The Hamilton Beach Indoor Grill (Model # 25335) offered an affordable alternative.
Description
The Hamilton Beach Indoor Grill is compact, measuring 12.5” long x 8” wide x 5” high.  It has 90 square inches of grilling space.  The top of the grill features a green/red indictor light to show when it is preheated and ready to use.  The top and bottom grooved grill plates can be removed and are dishwasher safe.  There is also a dishwasher-safe plastic drip tray that slides into the front of the grill to catch grease run-off.

The grill comes with an instruction pamphlet which includes illustrations of the grill parts, How To Grill instructions with pictures, Care and Cleaning guide, and a one-page cooking chart with cook times for various foods.
My Experiences
This is a nice looking indoor grill.  It fits perfectly on my counter.  It is also fair to say that this grill, while really nice, is not a deluxe model.  For instance, there is no temperature control or timer.  It has one heat setting.

I have no trouble using this Hamilton Beach product.  Simply plug the grill into a wall outlet, and wait for it to preheat.  Once the green light illuminates, the grill is ready to receive food to cook.  Make sure to lift the lid using the front built-in handle.  The body of the unit becomes hot, so be careful not to touch it (as I learned from experience).
Advertising for this grill often shows six burgers arranged on the grill plates.  In my experience, the only way six burgers would fit on this grill is if they were very small.  I buy pre-made chicken patties, which are a good size diameter, and have no trouble cooking two of them side by side.  Two grill cheese sandwiches also fit side by side on the grill plates (I use larger slices of bread; not the smaller “sandwich” size).  The non-stick grill plates do a good job, too.  I don’t have to fight to remove food from the grill.
In case you are wondering about cook times, grill cheese sandwiches take one minute to cook.  Frozen pre-made chicken patties cook in 12 minutes.  Here are some examples from the included cooking time chart:

4 ounce frozen boneless chicken breast – 10 to 12 minutes
4-6 ounce fresh boneless chicken breast – 5 to 8 minutes
2 ounce frozen fish fillet – 6 to 8 minutes
4 ounce fresh fish – 5 minutes
4 ounce frozen hamburger – 10 to 12 minutes
4 ounce fresh hamburger – 5 to 7 minutes
Bacon – 10 to 15 minutes
Fresh Zucchini or Summer Squash Slices – 4 minutes
The removable grill plates are a cinch to clean since I can place them on the top rack of the dishwasher.  At first, the plates might seem tricky to remove and replace, but after the first time, it is a simple procedure.
I also like that the sturdy plastic drip tray slides part way beneath the grill to catch grease drippings.  The George Foreman grill I was using had drip plates that sat in front of the grill and were not overly effective.  Hamilton Beach has a great solution with their drip tray, plus the tray is easy to set in place and remove when needed.
You may want to check the various listings on Amazon for the best price.  I bought my grill on sale last year from Walmart for less than forty dollars.
Summary
The Hamilton Beach Indoor Grill (Model # 25335) is a great, affordable solution even if it doesn’t have every bell and whistle.  The food cooks well and tastes great.  Plus, the grill is easy to clean since parts of it are dishwasher safe.  The grill is small enough to store on the counter even when not in use.
