GEL-GLOSS CLEANER AND POLISH: MAINTAINING CRUD-RESISTANCE

Gel-Gloss Cleaner, Sealer And Polish In The 12-Ounce Aerosol Can

Pros: Treats multiple surfaces such as marble, china and chrome.  Periodic use makes Fiberglas and textured laminate surfaces easier to maintain.

Cons: Treated surfaces will be slippery – not for use on floors or colored tile grout.
My recent influx of weekend guests corresponds with our regional tourism-based economy.  Despite a plethora of natural beauty in our midst, their stay usually culminates in a ‘go places and buy things’ spree that can be achieved most anywhere.  It seems that outlet stores speak a universal language – even those nestled within sight of our Presidential mountain range.

No Offense Intended

Though I’ve never subscribed to the comparison of fish to house-guests – the one where they both begin to stink after three days – they can present a conflict of standards when sharing kitchen space.  Saturday’s stir-fry adventure was a classic example – what can be scarier than an amateur cook wrestling with a raw chicken without the aid of a cutting board?
Taken For Granite

When my multi-level house was constructed, the owner/contractor decided to install two kitchens.  Such budget-busters as in-floor radiant heat and the unexpected site-blasting to remove pesky granite ledge resulted in the use of inexpensive, textured-laminate countertops.  Without proper sealing, the (intentionally) pitted, faux-granite surface requires a major effort to sanitize.  Regular maintenance with Gel-Gloss has been my method of limiting extensive kitchen cleanup of the kind we cooks will forever encounter.

Gel-Gloss is available in two forms – a convenient spray-on formulation and a ‘cream wax polish’, which resembles a liquid car wax.  While the cream is easier to apply and preferable for an initial application, the spray is great for routine maintenance.  Just be sure to avoid any over-spray landing on your cooktop and other non-compatible surfaces.

In addition to sealing the surface, an application of Gel-Gloss leaves behind a satiny sheen that gives my contractor-grade countertops a touch of elegance.  Until I construct and install the walnut butcher-block surfaces I desire, these ‘original-equipment’ laminates will suffice.

Despite the touch-up convenience of the spray, Gel-Gloss Crème is preferable when applying the initial base coat.

Boat, Bath And Beyond
If this homeowner had his druthers, a walk-in shower would have been a must for the master bath.  Instead, a Fiberglas jetted tub was installed.  Before its initial use, I cleaned it with Ram All-Purpose Cleaner and let it dry thoroughly.  An even application of Gel-Gloss has made subsequent maintenance a breeze.

The label states that Gel-Gloss is not recommended for use on floors.  I interpret this to include Fiberglas bathtub and shower inserts.  For safety’s sake, due to its inclusion of ‘most effective Carnauba waxes’, I abstain from all shower and tub-bottom applications of Gel-Gloss.

I know folks who recommend Gel-Gloss on Fiberglas, plastic, stainless steel, chrome and porcelain surfaces in their boats and motor homes to protect and prevent water-spotting.
