Task Scheduler is a predefined program of your operating system that is used to avail the service of scheduling the launch of a predefined application or program at a particular time or at regular time intervals.

Task scheduler was first featured in the Microsoft Plus OS which was for Windows 95. It was incorporated as a System Agent but after it was included in later versions of Microsoft OS is was termed as a Task Scheduler for the Windows 98. The function of task scheduler is often confused with the Scheduler. Even though both sound similar but are very different. The work of a scheduler is to allocate CPU resources. The CPU resources are assigned to those processes that are already running/stored in memory.So, a task scheduler and a Scheduler have very different functions.

Even the recently launched Windows 10 and Windows 8.1 have some tools and apps that are a legacy of previous windows.Task-scheduler being one of them, is a built-in utility.

Even though this app is more than 20 years old but it still has its importance in today’s app savvy world. In Windows, it is located in the Administrative Tools section of the Control Panel, under the section of System and Security. If you think you can do your work even without some of the existing entries, then proceed to the Task Scheduler Library, select that particular task from the list and Delete it from the menu. It is very important to know that you must delete tasks that you are sure about otherwise you can harm the process of your system.

Task Creation

The most interesting and useful function of task scheduler is that you can create your own tasks. It is very simple to create a function using a task scheduler. And what makes it unusual is the fact that you can yourself define the trigger for the task you want to be performed. There are various conditions and settings available to create the trigger for the task to be performed. In the control panel under system and security, select the administration panel and choose Create Task in the Task Scheduler option available there.

The trigger can be anything you want it to be. It can also be used to launch another application or shut down a previously running application on demand. You could shut down or start a maintenance on your machine at a particular time every day. There is also the provision to have the scheduler wait for the computer to get idle before starting the scheduled task.
