Mercedes Benz E Class vs BMW 5 Series – The Battle Is On

The mid-range luxury cars category is one of the most popular categories in the Indian automobile market. Further there are no names bigger than Mercedes Benz and BMW in the game and both these massive brands and experienced a lot of success in the category. The average income level of an Indian metropolitan dweller has increased in the last couple of decades and hence the affordability factor has also been in their favour. Mercedes Benz E Class and BMW 5 Series are luxury sedans in the same segment.  So let us compare the two and see which one comes out on top.

Appearance

Mercedes Benz E Class basically has this vintage Mercedes look that is understated and subtle while also having a few of the modern elements including a bold headlight cluster in the front. BMW 5 Series however seems a lot more polished with a modern exterior accentuated by the beautiful alloy wheels on the side and strong character lines on the side and the front.

When it comes to dimensions, the Mercedes Benz E Class comes with a length of 4879mm, a width of 2071mm and a height of 1474mm whereas BMW 5 Series is slightly longer with a length of 4907mm, a width of 2102mm and a height of 1464mm.

Customers are spoiled with various color choices in case of BMW 5 Series with as many as 13 color options to select from. Some of the options include black sapphire, alpine white, cashmere silver, mineral white, glacier silver and jatoba. BMW 5 Series on the other hand has 11 color choices including cavansite blue metallic, black, polar white, diamond white etc.

Engine

Both the luxury sedans have plenty of variants in both diesel and petrol along with automatic transmission system.

The diesel variant of BMW 5 Series comes loaded with a 3 litre 24V Diesel engine that has a displacement of 2993cc with 6 cylinders of 4 valves each. The engine gives away 258bhp power at 4000rpm and a torque of 560Nm at 1500 to 3000rpm. Mated to an 8 speed transmission system the engine uses a RWD setup.

The diesel variant of Mercedes Benz E Class on the other hand has a 3 litre 24V V Type diesel engine that uses a displacement of 2987cc and works with 6 cylinders of 4 valves each. As a result we get a maximum power of 265bhp at 3800rpm and a maximum torque of 620Nm at 1600 to 2400rpm. The engine works with a 7 speed automatic transmission system.

Buying a luxury car is certainly a fancy affair but a used Mercedes E Class car in Delhi will bring down the cost for customers.

Performance

Speed is certainly not an issue for both the luxury cars which is not surprising considering the strong numbers they hold. Mercedes Benz E Class can go from 0 to 100kmph in a span of 6.6 seconds which is quick but quicker than what BMW 5 Series can accomplish. BMW 5 Series can hit the 100kmph mark in a matter of 5.8 seconds which is mind blowing to say the least. Both the cars are at par when it comes to top speed with both the sedans hitting a maximum speed of 250kmph.

Interior

Inside the Mercedes Benz E Class, the cabin is spacious and luxurious by all means. The chrome handle bars and the central console system are a treat for sore eyes. BMW 5 Series does not hold back either with the sedan offering leather seats and plush looking multimedia system. Seats are spacious while the boot space is also more than enough for both the cars.
