Can Z10 Put BlackBerry Back In The Game?

In 2012, Blackberry was able to produce some top contender Smartphones, among the list are BB Curve and BB Bold. However, top brands like Apple and Samsung did not let newcomers take the lead. Apple’s iPhone 5 and Samsung’s Galaxy S4 took the attention of the people away from the brand of Blackberry, pushing the company to make a top of the line Smartphone. This is when Blackberry Z10 enters the scenario. Capturing the market of businessmen and corporate employees, it did not take long to make a comeback for Blackberry. It has always been branded as the “business smart phone” anyway.

But the big question is: what did Blackberry put inside Z10 to recapture a huge portion of the market share?

Sophisticated Design

Almost everybody would agree that all Blackberry models have been produced in a simplistic and sophisticated fashion. All of them are sporting a sleek and elegant look. Z10 is not an exception to this. You will not see any buttons in the front. All you can see is the elegant screen and the front camera on the top portion. Also, the flashing notification LED, light sensor, and the earpiece can be located on the face of the phone. On the sides are the volume control and micro USB port while the headset jack and power button can be seen on top. What’s left on the bottom part is the loudspeaker, strategically located for video calling.

Display

The display of Blackberry Z10 has a high resolution LCD of 1280 x 768 ppi and is compacted in a 4.2 inch touchscreen. This may not be the smart phone with the highest resolution nor the widest screen but Blackberry has done great to produce a phone with great imaging display, vivid colors, perfect contrast and adjustable brightness. Comparing it to an average Smartphone, you will definitely see the precision.

Interface

One of the most awaited features of Blackberry Z10 is its operating system, the Blackberry 10. This is expected to top off other operating system counterparts such as iOS 6, Windows Phone 8, and the Android Jelly Bean. Right after opening the Smartphone, you will already feel the difference between Blackberry 10 and the previous operating system mainly because of the speed. You will see the Blackberry lock screen where you can see the remaining battery, date, time, and notifications from BBM, email, or missed calls. When you unlock the screen, you will be led to the home screen where you will see four thumbnails–these are the recently closed applications. There is a preview screen–yes, it’s multitasking–where you can close any app that you want to shut down. From the home screen, you can swipe down to see the quick settings menu. It contains options like Bluetooth, WiFi, notifications, alarm clock, and other tools that you frequently use.

Sliding to the side will lead you to BlackBerry Hub. This is the application where all your messaging accounts can be synchronized so that you can see all incoming messages on a single screen. You can also see your most recent Facebook and Twitter updates in this portion.

Processors and Battery

BB Z10 is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 MSM8960SoC with a dual-core 1.5GHz CPU and Adreno 225 GPU. The memory has a standard 2 GB RAM and 16 GB of storage space. If you find it a bit disappointing, you can always expand your phone’s memory since it has a MicroSD card slot. BB Z10 runs on a 1,800 mAh battery which is relatively small for a smart phone. This could be the downside of this model but which Smartphone overwhelms us with battery anyway?

So what do you think? Is Z10 Blackberry’s passport back to the gadget arena?
