ZANY RHYMES: THE FOOT BOOK
The Foot Book
Bright and Early Books for Beginning Readers
Pros: Fun, Holds Child Interest, Zany Rhymes, Durable Book
Cons: None Noted
The Foot Book, one of The Bright and Early Books for Beginning Beginners , is a fun Wacky Book of Opposites filled with madcap rhymes, funny creatures and feet, feet, feet.
The Foot Book is an enchanting view of the dissimilar and multidimensional world of feet. Filled with rhymes, adjectives and nouns aplenty this fun, easy read is not merely a silly rhyming book sure to tickle the funny bone of little people. It is a well thought out, nicely presented work offering parents and teachers a tool for use when growing vocabulary and understanding that adjectives, describing words, make even mundane feet more interesting.
The Foot Book is one I use in my classroom when teaching the concepts of opposites, things, and words to describe them as well as action words. Little Readers often reach for The Foot Book as we trek to the computer lab. Children work on their individualized lessons, and when they come to a point of problem, or Mrs. M needs to see to check the % correct; books are opened and I can tell at a glance who needs my attention. No one is simply waiting with hand uplifted, or staring at the screen, Little Readers are honing reading skills AND growing their reading enjoyment and desire to read.

Dr. Seuss and his whimsical approach to language is child pleasing, educational and just plain fun. Rhymes are quirky, rapid and original, and Seuss’s illustrations are child friendly.
Dr Seuss, Theodor Geisel, Theodor Geisel, was a master of the zany, ludicrous and daft well capable to take a vocabulary of some 40 or so words along with various of the unconventional critters filling his imagination to create a child pleasing work that has stood the decades from first introduction back in the 1960s until today as a child and parent favorite.
In my Osage County First Grade Classroom there are several editions of this particular book, some are single books, others are found in one of the various BiG Book anthologies, Big Red, Big Blue and the like presenting six of the Bright and Early Books for Beginning Beginners. One of the basal texts used in our classroom even has The Foot Book as one of the stories to be read by Little Readers.
The Foot Book was one of the carton of Dr. Suess books brought to my very first First Grade classroom many years ago. Children in my classroom today are as enthralled as were those Little Learners so many years ago.
Parents across the nation, including myself have been reading Dr Seuss books to their children and giggling along as children and parents alike view the whimsical drawings, and repeat the entertaining rhymes.
I have long liked Dr. Suess’ books for the reason that they are sturdy, well-crafted and stand up to repeated usage. Those my children listened, read along with and giggled to outlasted their early years and moved to my classroom as Sons became middle grade students. My classroom library was sent home with students as I took hiatus from the classroom for a few years. Those books were in fine fettle, hardly showing any wear despite years of use.
When I returned to the classroom following my hiatus and I began reconstruction my Dr Suess library. The Foot Book is still a super popular book, often chosen by the child of the day as the one I am to read at the end of our day and often chosen for free time reading during DEAR reading time.
With a vocabulary of 40 or so words and an abundance of fun rhymes The Foot Book is one children begin taking home for reading aloud to parents, themselves, as well as to the reading aide, and their classmates in the classroom.
I like that Dr Seuss books while zany and fun do present great content material regarding grammar, growing vocabulary and the like. Children listen as raptly today as did my first students, they chat about the illustrations, and join in as I read.
Originally created by Dr. Seuss, Beginner Books encourage children to read for themselves. Books filled with simple words and child pleasing graphics providing indications for implication of words, are books children will read again and again.
Beginner Books are is the most popular Random House series much because the works meld appealing tales completed with often riotous, child pleasing, outrageous illustrations.
Osage County First Grade Give Thumbs Up to The Foot Book.
