Duke Law School in collaboration with Institut d’Etudes Politiques de Paris offers a unique opportunity for both America and European law students to earn a JD/Masters in Global Business Law degree. Under this dual degree program, the students receive a JD degree along with a Masters of Law, after successful completion of the course within a period of three years. The Masters of Law is a French national degree in legal studies that permits students who have this degree to appear for their French Bar examination. Under the JD/Masters in Global Business Law course, the students will study for a period of two years at Duke Law School and in their third and final year, these students will study in Paris.

Under this degree course, the department of Political Science determines the number of seats that are available for students wishing to apply for this course. At any academic year, not more than two students from Duke Law School can participate in JD/Masters in the city of Paris;

JD students from Duke Law School who intend to join this law course need to complete a minimum of two-thirds of their credit at Duke Law. In the case of JD/LLM students along with other dual degree students who wish to complete JD/Masters along with their dual degree must fulfill the other requirements in the dual degree course;

All students who intend to enroll in the JD/Masters program must complete the mandatory additional requirements for their graduation during their duration at Duke University;

Students who satisfactorily complete the coursework at Paris will receive twenty-eight academic credits for their JD degree;

The approval of a student’s proposed course of law study in Paris rests upon the International Studies office before the conclusion of academic season;

Students will earn credit for their JD degree at Duke University only for the courses they had studied in Paris and received a grade of 2.1;

While Duke University will pay the student’s tuition fees, the students will have to bear expense relating to their travel, health insurance and special fees;

The host institute will be responsible for providing proof of medical insurance coverage; and

On the successful conclusion of their studies in Paris, students will have to submit an official transcript to the Registrar Office of Duke Law School.
