The start of every new football tournament holds the collective anticipation of seeing our favourite teams take to the pitch, strutting their enviable skills in their brand new kits. This summer’s Euro 2016 tournament in France will be no different, so let’s take a look at some of the top teams’ fancy new threads.
England
The Three Lions’ new home kit by Nike has shuffled things up a bit from previous designs, boasting England’s classic ice-white body but with stylish grey sleeves. Embellished with royal blue strips running around the back of the neck and under the arms, then complete with contrasting red socks, fashion is at least one department England will succeed in this year (there are no penalty shoot outs in fashion!).
France
The hosts’ new kit is all about simplicity. Shape-wise, it is almost identical to England’s new kit (both are made by Nike). It pushes their traditional deep blue out to the sleeves and instead fills the main body with a lighter, smooth sea blue. Again, like England’s kit, it’s capped off with striking red socks.
Germany
Always a favourite at tournaments, Germany’s new kit doesn’t differ very much from their past designs. A very simple white body tapered with black cuffs around the neck and sleeves keeps this kit looking iconic. The only radical difference here is that Adidas have moved their famous three stripes away from the sleeves and under the arm.
Spain
Spain’s Euro 2016 home shirt features their classic blood red body with yellow and navy trimmings over blue shorts and navy socks. The body of the shirt is detailed with subtle triangle patterns, and, like Germany’s kit, the traditional Adidas stripes are placed under the arms.
Portugal
Will Christiano Ronaldo find glory in his new Portugal strip? The main body of this strip is Portugal’s traditional tomato red with an almost armoured vest pattern over the pecks – which makes you wonder if Ronaldo himself designed the jersey! In keeping with Nike’s new designs, a deeper red fills the sleeves, while forest green socks and strips up the body top it all off.
Belgium
Despite having a talented squad of players, Belgium disappointed at the last World Cup, but maybe their new kit can help bring them glory at Euro 2016. Featuring a stacked design of black shoulders on a shiny red body on black shorts on yellow and red socks, this kit has quite an imposing feel. The Adidas stripes are more noticeable than on other strips thanks to the bright yellow on red contrast.
Italy
Italy’s Euro 2016 home kit hasn’t done much with the classic design. A simple galaxy blue covers from head to toe, with subtle white stripes down the chest and over the arms for a bit of variation.
