For many people, getting into shape, or getting back into shape, is a daunting task. In fact, many people are so intimidated by the prospect of getting back into shape that they never even begin at all. Every day ends with a promise that tomorrow is the start of their new exercise regime. Deep down inside, they know that tomorrow they will lack the determination to take that first step, sit-up, or push-up. If you are like most people and are having trouble getting active, either again or for the first time, do yourself a favor and immerse yourself in a supportive, social environment. This environment should encourage you to follow your fitness goals while providing an enjoyable experience. Many people join a gym. This is a good idea, in theory. Yes, gyms have all of the equipment you need for success.
But that is only half of the battle. If you show up to the gym alone, who is going to motivate you to achieve your goals? Plus, even if you are motivated, how will you know how to achieve those goals? With so many different machines, it is hard to know which one to use. Once you pick a machine, you may not even know how it works. And be careful, using gym equipment improperly can lead to serious injury, either immediate or over the long run from repeated motion stress. For this reason, we advocate signing up for a supportive and social environment like a CrossFit class. Getting into one of these classes will motivate you and teach you how to work out properly. You want to enjoy this process, so do not torture yourself by going at it alone, and worse, damaging your body while you are at it. At a CrossFit class, you will be surrounded by folks who also want to lose weight and get more fit. You will be led by an instructor who cares about your goals. If you have questions, just feel free to ask. The more knowledge you have about achieving your fitness goals, the more likely you are to do so.
