Essential Components Of A Logo Design

Logos are important elements in communicating essential details about a particular company. As many people perceive, a logo is not merely a combination of colors and some few words. Rather, it is a brand identity which is more identifiable than the brand name. A logo is very crucial in enhancing the reputation of a particular brand or a company. Therefore, utmost care needs to be taken when designing a logo. Designing a logo required prior planning, thinking and reorganization of ideas in order to ensure that your design achieves the intended intention. Designing a logo is not a one day, a rapid encounter or something you can create while enjoying your favorite movie. Rather, it require a series of planning, thinking, research and organization in order to grab the necessary attention from different audience.

A good professional custom logo design should have three essential components. These include; a symbol, a wordmark, and a tagline.

However, there are different types of logos which each has its essential components. For instance, some logos will have the three components; wordmark, tagline and a symbol. However, others will have a symbol and a wordmark and no tagline.  Therefore, it is important to have a clear understanding of the type of logo you want to create before deciding which components to use.

Wordmark: A wordmark illustrates the name of the company. For instance, Mercedes, Coca-Cola, Fruitfun, among others. A wordmark is very crucial as it gives information to the audience about the company to which the logo is representing. A good logo should have a wordmark as a compulsory component.

Symbol: A symbol is an icon or a pictogram that illustrates the company. Each company should have its own unique symbol that distinguishes it from other companies.

Tagline: A tagline is a small description about the product or the company. A tagline is aimed at informing the audience more about the company.

Based on the three components, different types of logos exist. These are for instance;

Typographic Logos. These are logos that only consist of a wordmark. They do not have a symbol or a tagline.

Figurative Logos. These are logos that have a combination of a wordmark and a symbol. The symbol however is not an abstract but act as a figurative representation of a company or a product.

Abstract logos. These are logos that has combination of both a wordmark and a symbol. However, in this case, the symbol is a real representation of something. This is contra to figurative logos where the symbol is figuratively used.
