What To Do After Finishing College

Not everybody is blessed with the knowledge of what they want to do when they leave college. It can be a difficult decision knowing which way to turn and what career you want to get into.

If you’re at a loss as to what to do next, the tips below may help.

1. Take Time Out

If you’re really at a loss as to what you want to do, taking a little time out could be a good option providing you have the funds.

A gap year or even just a few months travelling can really help to put things into perspective. It helps to build independence and makes you look at life in a different way; particularly if you’re going abroad to help those less fortunate.

Volunteering and witnessing a different culture could give you a clearer idea of what you want to do. Sometimes a little time out is all you need.

2. Consider a Vocational Course

Vocational courses are an excellent idea. They basically help you to work towards a specific trade. You’re learning while gaining good work experience. City & Guilds apprenticeships are a particularly good option to look into.

You may not want to go into additional education but if you don’t actually know what job you want to do, it can make working a little difficult. Learning while you work is an excellent alternative and helps you to build up essential skills which make you more employable.

There are vocational courses in all types of industries. Think about what you enjoy doing and see whether there’s a course to suit your preferences.

3. Be a Tour/adventure Guide

If you’re looking for something unique and fun to do after college, an adventure guide could be the ideal option. You’ll even find there are vacancies abroad, particularly within the USA where English speaking guides are required.

It’s different and it’s ideal for those who love a little adventure. Failing that, a tour guide for a local attraction could be a good opportunity. You’ll be earning as well as meeting people.

It’s worth noting that while many of these opportunities are only part time but it does give you something to do while you’re trying to decide where to go next.

4. Become a Babysitter

Childcare is one of the best paid sectors you can get into. If you’re naturally good with children, this is a great option to consider.

There are even opportunities where you can become a live-in nanny. You’ll receive your accommodation and meals absolutely free. Many people are desperate for affordable babysitters so it makes sense to go into a sector where there’s a high chance of employability.

As you can see, you do have a lot of options out there. Further education is always a good idea as it teaches you new skills and makes you more employable. Thinking outside the box and getting into a sector that’s currently desperate for new workers is another good option.

As well as babysitting and tour guides, there are loads more job opportunities you can take on part time to earn a little money.
